Aslı Filinta

Asli Filinta is an internationally acclaimed young Turkish designer whose work has been profoundly inspired by Sustainability and the beating heart of her brand ‘Aslı Filinta’ is centred around social conscience.

In 2021 Asli Filinta has been awarded as ‘’the Sustainability Fashion Designer of the year – 2022’’ by Elle Style Awards. After launching the ‘upcycle service’ online she has also awarded by Women who make a difference by Mediacat Magazine and also ‘Sustainability Designer of the Year Award’ by the Art of Living by Istanbul Medipol University in 2022.

While the fashion world is still in a hamster wheel, she has actually pressed the pause button to work on a solution by producing less, upcycle more and empower others.

She has created a woman empowerment program to support disadvantaged women by giving them a purpose and work. It is these women who are behind the beautiful hand embroidered details and artisanal work on her clothing. After seeing how vulnerable the entire world is, she has put more effort to raise awareness for social sustainability, to inspire others to consume more consciously and believe in ‘sharing the light’

Born and raised in Turkey, Asli Filinta Demir graduated from Bilkent Economics in 2001.Having worked in finance for one year, she launched her own fashion line ‘Aslı Filinta’ and showed her first collection in New York in March 2008. She was honored the Young Designers Fashion Award of Who’s Next organisation of Paris in 2009. Filinta was invited to design a collection for Target from SS 2009 season and announced by the online-media mogul, Daily-Candy, as the genuine, the unique and the next among young international designers. End of her second collection, she caught the eye of Vogue Nippon and was invited to the Comme Des Garcons pop up store at Dover street Market Aoyama with the superbrands Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Loewe, Celine, Lanvin, Martin Margiela, Chloe, Marni and more. After getting featured at Vogue Japan and Japanese Newspaper Nissen many times, and announced as the young talent for mixing Anatolian tradition with global fashion awareness at WWD, she was invited to do an exhibition at Joyce Gallery, Palais Royal in Paris and the Asli Filinta brand has been carried by Joyce, Hong Kong next to the brands like Sacai and Pleats Please Issey Miyake. In March 2019, after her presentation in a former synagog in Istanbul, the headlines were ‘’ Aslı Filinta is the name to know from Mercedes-Benz Istanbul’ at Vogue US, The Forward and many more international publications.

Our aim is to transform Anatolian tales and traditions, Through the power of design, with innovations Our values are to champion women’s cooperatives, Crafting locally, with sustainable objectives. These ideals, Aslı Filinta’s guiding light, In every stitch, in every design, in every flight. For in our hands, traditions find new wings,
In our hearts, the melody of empowerment sings. As we weave stories into fabric, with care, We honor heritage, with every thread we share. Women’s cooperatives, our steadfast guide, In the journey of creation, they stand beside With real-sustainable materials, we pave the way, For a future where traditions forever stay. An ode to our roots, a tribute to our land, In the legacy we build, our values stand.

Imagine a place where all products are crafted by the hands of women, and where every story belongs to Anatolia.

It’s a creative space that harnesses the power of design to produce in harmony with the needs of our time, without losing traditional craftsmanship and values. This isn’t just a shop focused on sales and marketing; it’s a space that prioritizes creating value from the very beginning, from production and design, promoting collective benefit and giving rise to new creations. Inside, you’ll find wheat stem bags, Erzurum scarves, beadwork bags from Sinop Prison, and knitwear from the production tents of Antakya women.

In pursuit of authentic sustainability, the store uses recyclable and natural materials for packaging, avoiding platic and paper. Inside, alongside garments made from scrap fabric, redesigned banana fiber sandals, and vintage kilims, you’ll find Ottoman chests—a place inviting you to look back at the past anew. Respecting women’s labor, the team is 80% female, and the restaurant menu features only products sourced from women’s cooperatives and geographical indications, with regional coffee varieties served. Outside, olive and laurel trees; inside, a performance area showcasing current works by Anatolian artists and featuring live musicians. Its doors are always open, continually updating to welcome all local brands and designers inspired by Anatolia.

I envision a meeting place where we’ll rediscover ourselves, come together and serve for the ours and Anatolia’s awakening with united intentions and strength.

Sinop Prison Beadwork

Amidst the stone walls where shadows dance, Hands weave tales in a fleeting trance. Within the confines of barred cells, Creativity blossoms, stories swell.

Beads dance on threads, a delicate art, Crafted with care, each piece a part Of a tradition woven through time’s embrace, In Sinop’s heart, in its storied space.

From the hands of prisoners, tales unfold, In beadwork, stories of love are told. Each stitch a whisper, a silent plea, For connection, for hope, for hearts to see.

For in these crafts, resilience is found, In the silent hum of threads, a healing sound.  Through the bars, through the locks, they reach, With every bead, with every stitch.

A bridge to the world beyond their cell, In beadwork, their stories dwell. In the quiet of their shared endeavor, Friendship blooms, bonds that last forever.

In the rhythm of work, in the joy of toil, In the whispers of beads, in the shared soil. And in each piece, a message is sent, A whisper of love, a heartfelt vent. For in beadwork, they find release, In threads, they weave their inner peace.
