Ehram weaving is one of the most deep rooted handcrafts mostly in the Eastern Anatolian Regions like Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt and Artvin. Ehram is the name of women’s outerwear made of finely spun sheep’s wool, which is obtained by weaving with a flat surface shuttle through very laborious stages. Ehrams were used to demonstrate the marital status. Off white wool were used by brides, as the white sheep is a more common type. Darker wool were used for married women with kids. The dark brown is used by widows.
