Denim vests, sheer jackets, embroidered overlayers — most begin as fabric left from an earlier collection or as a garment that came back. The embroidery is applied after construction, so the needlework reads the seams: it thickens where the panel is strong, thins where it is not, and stops where the piece stops.
This is the part of the process that does not scale. A factory embroiders flat cloth and then cuts it, because that is faster. Embroidering a finished jacket means the work cannot be repeated on the next one, and it means the person doing it decides where the pattern goes.
Aslı Filinta stopped ordering new collections in 2017 and has produced from remaining stock since. Outerwear is where that shows most plainly — the run length is set by how much of a fabric is left, not by a forecast.
